Preistoria Pisa at the 30th European Association of Archaeologists meeting

From August 28 to 31, the University of Rome La Sapienza hosted the 30th annual meeting of the European Association of Archaeologists (EAA), bringing together thousands of scholars and professionals from European and global archaeology to discuss a wide range of topics through thematic sessions.

The Prehistory group from the University of Pisa contributed with several presentations. Professor Elisabetta Starnini co-authored a presentation on the geo-archaeological reassessment of the Paleolithic site of Madonna dell’Arma in Sanremo. Professor Niccolò Mazzucco co-authored several presentations related to the Neolithic site of La Marmotta, the technological development of Neolithic Pyrenean cultures, and a poster, co-authored with Dr. Lionello Morandi, on the interaction between plants and humans. Dr. Morandi also organized the session “Redefining Abandonment: Geoarchaeological and Ethnographical Approaches to Unveiling Hidden Narratives,” which discussed the phases of site abandonment and how to recognize them using modern techniques. Additionally, he co-authored presentations on the study of ceramics and the traces of organic plant residues found on them. Dr. Cristiana Petrinelli-Pannocchia and PhD candidate Alice Vassanelli led a presentation focused on trace analysis within the context of the Central Italian Neolithic. Finally, Dr. Jacopo Gennai presented a methodological study comparing lithic technology in the Early Upper Paleolithic.
