MobiliTy aims to deepen our knowledge of the Transition between the Middle and Upper Palaeolithic in north-western Tuscany. In fact, the area is characterised by the highest number of stratified sites attributed to the latest Neanderthals and one of the two stratified sites attributed to the Early Upper Palaeolithic in Tuscany. Furthermore, the presence of a large karst formation (Apuan Alps), dividing the river Serchio valley from the Versilia coastal plain, may convey human movements along the two North to South movement axes. Technological analyses will be carried out on the lithic assemblages of Tecchia di Equi, Grotta all’Onda, Buca del Tasso, Buca della Iena, Grotta del Capriolo (Middle Paleolithic-Neanderthal) and Pontecosi Campo Sportivo (Early Upper Palaeolithic-Sapiens). Particular attention is paid to the techno-economic dynamics resulting from the differential exploitation of the various lithotypes. The project is funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe programme (Marie Curie Sklodowska Actions).
