ADMIRE

ADMIRE – investigAte 3D iMaging neolithic pottery dEcoration – is a MOLAB project supported by da E-RIHS (European Research Infrastructure for Heritage Science).

The project aims to develop a new analytical protocol for the study of ceramic decorations from the early Neolithic settlements of the Italian peninsula. The objective of ADMIRE is to improve and standardise current methods of analysis, integrating them with digital surveying techniques capable of providing detailed information on the pottery decorations detected.

The 3D image correlated with a techno-typological study, and associated with an experimental protocol, can allow us to understand the variety of tools, processes and gestures used by potters to obtain the different decorations. The data collected can help to identify and distinguish domestic production linked to the individual family group, show distribution areas associated with different decorative types, and highlight the emergence of progressively more specialised production.
