Presentation of new results about final Mousterian Buca della Iena and Grotta del Capriolo sites at the 65th Hugo Obermaier Society meeting

In the last days Jacopo Gennai presented, on behalf of an international research group, new results achieved on the Buca della Iena and Grotta del Capriolo sites at the 65th Hugo Obermaier Society meeting. This year theme was the emergence and disappearance of Middle Palaeolithic lifeways, which was particulary suitable to the newly obtained results. Thanks to re-evaluation of the stratigraphical sequence, the re-analysis of lithics and modern dating, Buca della Iena and Grotta del Capriolo can be reliably put within those sites belonging to the very last Neanderthals in the Italian Peninsula. The results will be made ready for publication in an international peer-review article soon. Jacopo Gennai is grateful to Professors Gino Fornaciari and Carlo Tozzi, the SABAP Lucca and Massa-Cararra and Mr. Orlandi for the collaboration.
