Technological analysis of Mousterian lithic artefacts of Grotta di Equi Terme

During the month of March the Mousterian lithic assemblage of Grotta di Equi Terme has been re-analysed. The cave is located above the village of Equi Terme (Fivizzano, Tuscany, Italy). Prof. Carlo de Stefani excavated the site between 1911-1919 and led to the discovery of an important palaeontological and archaeological deposit. Equi Terme was one of the earliest Palaeolithic sites to be discovered and investigated in Italy, thanks to the group of Anthropology funded in Florence between the end of the XIXth and the early XXth century. Despite its importance, the assemblage has been only fleetingly published once in 1928 by Iolanda Branchini. The new analysis, conducted by Jacopo Gennai within his Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions project “MobiliTy”, will shed new light. Jacopo Gennai is grateful to Dr. Fabio Di Vincenzo and the staff of University of Florence’s Natural History Museum – Anthropology and Ethnology department for allowing and hosting the re-analysis.
