The yearly research mission on the Pindos mountain range (North-Western Greece) was recently completed. This is part of a collaboration between the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (GR – Prof. N. Esfratiou), the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (Prof. P. Biagi), and the University of Pisa (Prof. E. Starnini). This year, the University of Pisa team was enriched by Dr. Jacopo Gennai. The aim of this year’s campaign was to achieve an in-depth technological analysis of the SAM1 Mousterian site lithic assemblage, which is important evidence of the occupation by Neanderthal groups of the mountainous areas of the southern Balkans.
